Brig (Dr) R S Grewal
Brig (Dr.) RS Grewal – a fourth generation Army officer - is a civil engineer and apart from serving in the Indian Army he has been head of various higher educational institutions. He has served as a member of faculty at the Defence Services Staff College, Wellington and College of Military Engineering, Pune. He has the distinction of being the first serving officer from the three Services to be recognized as a guide for PhD level studies by University of Madras. His more than 55 years of service includes proven track record of managing technical training institutions both in the Army and in Universities.
He has had the distinction of setting up three educational institutions from scratch and nurturing those to path of growth. His main forte has been perspective planning, policy formulation and plan implementation, industry-academia collaboration, developing inter-institutional tie ups including those at international levels, faculty development, pedagogical development and student relations. He has contributed papers on national security, human resource development and higher education to prestigious journals. He is also a member of the Higher Education Committee of FICCI and has been a speaker at numerous national and international seminars in India and abroad.
Brig Grewal has been Chief Engineer in the Border Roads Organisation. Apart from being Director of Sikkim Manipal Institute of Technology, Pro Vice Chancellor Sikkim Manipal University, and Director ICICI Manipal Academy (now Manipal University Bangalore Campus) he has been Vice Chancellor of Chitkara University, HP.
His services were recognized by President of India with the award of coveted Vishisht Sewa Medal.
He has flair for languages and apart from English, Hindi, Punjabi and Urdu, has studied Burmese and can read write and speak Tamil.
